Short Piece - 'TWISTED'

'TWISTED' By Karla Yesenia Lopez

The brink of the nose becomes painful, heavy with emotion.
Each under-eye bag stings and creates dark crevices like the ocean abyss.
No thought in mind circulates at the moment.
The laptop screen mirrors the person in pity and confusion.

Discouraged by the rejection of jobs and opportunities, a dark gloom surrounds the individual.

The future seems dim and distant compared to the perfectly aligned future seen before.

Millennial corporations, politicians, and the new wave of remote work promise the youth a bright, independent future. Yet, the small written terms state otherwise with rules of exception.

Buzz words like "BIPOC-friendly", "Millennial ran", "Inclusive" all run as an advertisement and clickbait for the underrepresented individuals. But, the opportunity itself is snatched in hindsight since complying with the image of a Buzzfeed millennial becomes a priority.

Culture should not be Americanized for the sake of a billboard or company representation.

We are human beings with a passion to strive in a world of neverending economic inflation and political debate of our autonomy.
